Terranigma Is Getting a Remaster in 2027 — Here's the Original SFC Version
This one is news rather than a buying guide. A Super Famicom RPG that has never had an official re-release is finally getting one — but not until next year, so the original cartridge is still the only way to play it in Japanese.
What was announced
On August 25, 2026, publisher Clear River Games revealed a remaster of Terranigma during the "Pixel Arcadia — The Future of Retro" showcase. The remaster is licensed by Square Enix, and key members of the original development team are involved in the project. It's scheduled for release in 2027 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam, GOG). The project will also be shown at gamescom 2026 in Cologne, which opens the day after this announcement. Character designer Fujiwara Kamui, who worked on the original release, is contributing new key art. Composers Miyoko Kobayashi and Masanori Hikichi, who worked on the original soundtrack, are arranging some of the music for the new version.
Why Terranigma matters to collectors
Terranigma (天地創造, Tenchi Souzou) was released in Japan in October 1995 for the Super Famicom, published by Enix and developed by Quintet. It never received an official English localization in Japan-region packaging, though a PAL release did reach Europe under the same title. It's considered the third entry in Quintet's unofficial "Soul trilogy," alongside Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia (Gaia Gensouki in Japan).
Despite its reputation as one of the best action RPGs on the system, Terranigma had never been officially re-released or remastered before this announcement — which is part of why the original Super Famicom cartridge has remained a sought-after (and increasingly expensive) piece for collectors.

The product code works as a search key on Kataban, but Suruga-ya doesn't index the -JPN region suffix, so the Japanese title is the more reliable key there.
Note that the Japan-region release credits the publisher as Enix, which was the correct name in 1995 — the merger that formed Square Enix didn't happen until 2003.
