Cybernetic Attack: Final Mission — TENGO PROJECT Remakes the NES Classic S.C.A.T.

Winning Entertainment Group has announced Cybernetic Attack: Final Mission, a complete remake of the 1990 Famicom shooter Final Mission () — released in North America as S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team. The project is being built by TENGO PROJECT, the publisher's in-house team behind well-received 16-bit-style remakes of Kiki Kaikai and KAGE: Shadow of the Ninja. A teaser trailer is out now, and the game will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

In short:

  • Full remake (not a port) of the 1990 Natsume side-scrolling shooter, for 1–2 players
  • 5th entry in TENGO PROJECT's "16-bit taste" remake series
  • Teaser trailer released September 1, 2026; platform, release date, and price all TBD
  • Playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 (Sept 17–21, Makuhari Messe Hall 9, booth 09-C01)
  • Confirmed launch languages: Japanese, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese

What was the original Final Mission (S.C.A.T.)?

Final Mission launched on the Famicom in 1990 from Natsume, the studio now known as Winning Entertainment Group. It was a side-scrolling shooter notable for supporting genuine two-player cooperative play, a technically demanding feat on 8-bit hardware at the time, and it earned a loyal following among shooter fans. Outside Japan, the game was localized as S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team, with a story recast around a New York under siege.

Who is TENGO PROJECT?

TENGO PROJECT is Winning Entertainment Group's dedicated remake team, known for revisiting classic 8-bit titles with hand-crafted 16-bit-style pixel art rather than simple upscaling. Their catalog includes remakes of Kiki Kaikai: The Mystery of the Black Manteau and KAGE: Shadow of the Ninja, both praised for balancing nostalgia with meaningful new content. Cybernetic Attack: Final Mission is their fifth project in this series.

What's new in Cybernetic Attack: Final Mission?

The remake keeps the original's side-scrolling, co-op shooting foundation while adding new characters and extra content on top of the classic storyline. As with TENGO PROJECT's earlier work, the visual approach favors detailed, purpose-built 16-bit-style sprite art over a straight visual upgrade of the original assets.

When and where can I see it?

There's no release date, platform, or price yet — all three remain unannounced. The first place to actually play it will be Tokyo Game Show 2026, running September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe. TENGO PROJECT will have a hands-on demo at the Indie Game Corner, Hall 9, booth 09-C01.
